UNION PIER RETREAT

VACATION RESIDENCE

This summer retreat is comprised of a three part ensemble: a renovated summer house, a pool house, and a garage with bunk room above.The project is united by common roof slopes, wall and roof materials, a swimming pool, courtyards, and a cross axis marked by blue doors and polycarbonate canopies. 

The metal clad volumes orient to a recreational area which includes swimming, fire watching, swinging and volleyball. The landscape is a Lake Michigan beach installation and the pool is part hot tub, lap pool, and rafting rapids. Modest but artfully used materials are employed to create an enjoyable weekend respite.
